Volunteer Spotlight: Sinead

BIAS is always committed to providing the best service to the Irish community in Brent and beyond. In this series of spotlights, we would like to take a moment to thank our wonderful volunteers, as it is their dedication and support that enable us to offer additional help to those who are isolated or experiencing loneliness.

Today we would like to tell you about Sinead.

Sinead is one of our most dedicated volunteers, known for her attention to detail and warm personality. She has a genuine passion for connecting with others and helping wherever she can. Despite facing some health challenges of her own, Sinead remains an inspiring member of our community, using her many skills—especially her kindness—to make a positive impact.

It has been a year since Sinead started volunteering with BIAS, and we still remember her big smile the first day she came in for a friendly chat about the open roles. She spoke with enthusiasm for more than an hour, never losing her smile or excitement.

Since then, Sinead has supported the Irish community through our befriending service, providing help in unique and meaningful ways. She has become a trusted friend—someone to talk to over a cup of tea, laugh with when the weather is too grey, or even help with grocery shopping on cold days.

Our service users have wonderful things to say about her. One shared, “She is such a lovely person, and I am so glad I have met her!” Another recalled, “After her usual visit, I had my grandchildren come for dinner, but I realised I’d forgotten to buy sausages—my grandchildren love sausages. It was too cold for me to go out, but before heading home to her own family, Sinead stopped by a grocery store and brought sausages for us. She did this and so much more! She’s not just a volunteer; she’s a true friend to me”.

Sinead has also volunteered to assist neighbours who needed help from the BIAS advice team but were unable to reach the office on their own, improving the accessibility of our services.

At BIAS, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to Sinead for her time and dedication to the Irish community in Brent. Her work has made a meaningful impact, and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of our team.
